Steps to Creating Podcasts with Audacity

1) Pick a topic and write up a script.
· It takes about 3 class periods to generate 60-90 seconds of quality podcasting.
· Students should rehearse several times and make any necessary edits before attempting to record.

2) Record the Podcast
· Using either a portable mp3 recorder or Audacity, have students record their work.
· Two students should be involved in the recording process, a reader and a technician who pushes all the buttons.
· Silence is not necessary but it should be quiet or background noise will ruin the recording

3) Edit the Podcast and Add Music or Special Effects
· Use Audacity to listen to the podcast and make any adjustments
· The envelope tool can adjust volume
· Use additional tracks to add music and special effects or splice several students recordings together.
· Once satisfied save the project.

4) Export the Podcast as an mp3 and Post to the web
· Select File and Export then save the podcast in the mp3 format.
· Upload the podcast to the Internet for everyone to enjoy!
